Media Development Program

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development seeks to activate media performance and advancing it through the Media Development Program which includes specific training courses for press and media cadres by qualified trainers and by foreign experts in this area and provide them with information, trends and modern methods in addition to adopting quality projects for the media development.

Freedom Foundation is aspiring to contributing in the making of new generation of journalists who are able to communicate with the public professionally and achieve professional excellence and escort for communications and information revolution and techniques of new media. It also seeks to develop the skills of journalists and media workers and refine their expertise and develop their abilities through organizing training courses at various levels according to priorities of media requirements and development.


 Through the Media Development Program, Freedom Foundation seeks to achieve the following objectives:

1-Development of professional performance and raise the efficiency of the media workers and enhance the level of their professionalism.

2- Building of professional capacity and strengthening the institutional structure for a number of media organizations to develop its performance.

3-Participating in the development of laws that ensured the rights and media freedoms and other press-related laws and the media in Yemen, as well as contribute to its alteration or amendment and submit proposals on its suitability for international standards and conventions in this area.

4- Work to raise the ceiling of Freedom of Expression, in partnership with various relevant bodies, to improve the legal framework and provide legal and legislative structures to regulate the media work.

 5-Develop skills of journalists and media workers and provide them with the most important theoretical bases of information and its practical applications.

6- Launch projects to improve performance and capacity development for various categories and disciplines leading to advanced and specialized media.

7- Advancing modern media skills and capacities for young journalists, students, media professionals and journalists novices.

8- Conduct studies, researches, media study for public and their relationship to the local media.

9- Contribute in drawing media policy to take into account the development of the media message in form and substance.



1- Implement integrated training projects, theoretically and practically, by experts and qualified trainers in this area. Build partnerships with media organizations and institutions, training centers and media development organizations, locally and internationally.

2-Produce exemplary media programs with high professional standards and involve trainees and experts in its production.

3-Processing integrated television production unit in the foundation for the purpose of training and media production.

4-Networking with local, regional and international partners to improve the media performance.

5-Bring the best expertise and qualified of international trainers in various media fields.

6-Exchange of skills and experiences among the participants in the training courses and building professional relationships among them.  

7-Developing and modernizing techniques and methods through training and evaluation.

8-Training workshops and training groups and media development.

9-Practical training on various media technical skills.

 Permanent training project

Media training is one of the most important services introduced through Media Development Program in Freedom Foundation in order to submit it to the media workers, as being an important means to develop the skills and capacity development, through specialized and continuing training in various press and media fields, and through this project we will work to achieve the following:

1-Developing writing skills, technical skills and advancing the professional level of staff of the media organizations in the field of editorial, artistic and technical.

2-Conducting news editing courses and reports preparation, comprehensive press coverage courses for local issues, courses for professional presenters, courses for professional reporters, courses for investigative journalists as well as courses in photography, editing, TV direction and other media arts.

3-Developing managerial skills and improve the performance of media managers and media administrative leaderships and provide them with the expertise and skills needed to develop management in media institutions. Raising its level of professionalism and organizational structure, such as management of the newsrooms, media planning and strategic thinking as well as the institutionalization and development of media enterprise management and modern trends there in. 

4-Provide training courses for young journalists and media workers, promising junior and recent graduates, to gain them practical skills and prepare them for the media labor market.


Improving  Development Media Project

The specialized media is absent in several media institutions in Yemen, it would require the training and qualification of specialized local cadres and this is what the Freedom Foundation seeks to bridge the gap in this aspect.

The Freedom Foundation seeks to achieve the following:       

1-Develop specialized media mission to improve its performance and the performance of its employees, to keep up with the technology and the media revolution, to serve the development process and keep pace with the times.

2- Strengthening and activating the role of the media as a tool for change and sustainable development and to keep abreast of new methods in the media.

3-Strengthen trust and partnership between media organizations and development institutions, for optimal investment of media activity in the service of development issues.

4- Innovation in media methods that push towards achieving development goals through the media, as a key partner in the development process.


Research and Media production project

1-Conducting studies, researches, reports preparation and surveys, including studies of the public and public opinion, new media studies and media market research in order to take advantage of them.

2-Producing media materials, and publish or broadcast it through various media, audio-visual, print and electronic, as well as its publication and presentation through the Foundation's website.

3-Organize seminars, workshops, forums for experts and other acts.

4-Releasing the most important of these studies and materials in publications for benefit, and supplement with copies the faculties and departments of the journalism in the Yemeni universities and libraries. 

5-Helping students of journalism colleges in practical courses and in the production and implementation of their graduation projects.   


Female Media Empowerment Project:           

Freedom Foundation is keen to provide equal opportunities in the process of media development and training for both sexes, male and female, and has launched a special project to develop the professional capacity of media women and enhancing them through the allocation of training courses for female journalists and female media workers to encourage them to work in this area and raise their professional competence, in order to promote the presence of women in the Yemeni media. 


Freedom Award for Media Excellence

Freedom Foundation works hardly to achieve a quantum leap in the quality of media output, and pushing the process of media development and improving media performance through customized three annual awards named as (Freedom Award for Media Excellence) to stimulate the media workers to explode their creative energies and produce the best of their skills and media creations through their different media methods.  

The Freedom Foundation aims to launch the annual award to create a powerful means of motivating and continuous encouraging for media workers, as one of the ways and means for comprehensive media development that the Freedom Foundation seeks to achieve in long-term.  These awards include material and moral aspects, in recognition of the role played by Yemeni media and journalists and in recognition of their large efforts in this field.

Freedom Foundation is the pioneer in launching an annual award for media and journalism excellence in Yemen, where it decided to grant the media men and journalists from various Yemeni media, audio-visual and print media, this award in the beginning of each new year in a grand ceremony attended by senior government officials and the elite of journalists, media men and academics.
