The Houthi militia stormed on Thursday the headquarters of most Yemeni TV channels in Sanaa and looted its equipment as well as blocked many news websites, in an unprecedented campaign against the local media in Yemen.

Freedom Foundation condemns attack on crews of Aljazeera and Sky News Arabia in Aden

Sana’a (Saturday 27 April 2013): 
Freedom Foundation for media freedoms, rights and development condemned the attack targeted the crews of Aljazeera network and Sky News Arabia al-jazeera sky news arbiaTV channels on Saturday morning in the province of Aden. 
Freedom Foundation received a statement from its reporter in Aden confirming that the cameraman of Aljazeera news, Samir al-Nemri and the correspondent of (Aljazeera Net),Yasser Hassan, have been attacked by severe beating and confiscating TV camera , as well as attempted attack on the crew of Sky News Arabia by raising the daggers on them and harass them during their journalism coverage of an big rally organized by Southern Movement in Khormaksar district, in the city of Aden.


In contacts with Freedom Foundation, al-Nemri clarified that he was 
wounded by 
bruises in different parts of his body, and he was taken by unknown persons to an unknown place in Crater district. They have been investigated him there and forcibly taken his TV camera, job ID and some money, then released him. 
Other persons have tried to attack Aljazeera female correspondent, Miss. Safa Karman, in the same area in where Southern Movement was organizing their event, she run away with the help of other journalists. 
For his part, Yasser Hassan has been subjected to a strong blow in one of his eyes and others in the nose and head, resulting in bleeding and evacuating to the hospital in the city of Aden.
In the meantime, Sky News correspondent, Mohammed al-Kadhi said that he and TV cameraman have been subjected to an attempt attack by raising daggers, arbitrary harassment and very troublesome investigations that prevent him from journalistic coverage by several groups affiliating to the Southern Movement. 
As Freedom Foundation is condemning these attacks targeted media crews in the city of Aden, which is considered a violation of media, it is calling to bring safety for journalists to carry out their mission in covering events and practicing their work freely, and to play their role in bring the truth to the audience. 
As well as, Freedom Foundation demanded the security authorities and the local authority in Aden to take strong action against 
attackers and put an end to the ongoing violations, which has come just days after the warn of the danger on in the province of Aden, launched by Freedom Foundation.
Freedom Foundation calls upon human rights organizations and stakeholders of media freedoms to do their duty in the advocacy and defense of journalists, because of violations targeted them, and promote the media freedoms and rights in Aden.
