Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development condemned the kidnapping

of Al-Masirah TV female reporter in the capital Sana’a, Sera’a al-Shehari, the threat of murder to the correspondent of Reuters and UAE al-Bayan newspaper in Yemen, Mohammed al-Ghubari as well as the news director of Mukalla radio AbdulHafeed Saeed Ibrahim, and the attempted assassination of the editor-in-chief of al-Masa Press (Evening Press) news website, Abdullah bin Amer in Sana’a,In his report, Saeed Jamal al-Shehari, father of the female journalist Sera’a al-Shehari said that the kidnappers threw his daughter near Sana’a airport on Wednesday dawn, December 4th 2013, after nearly 18 hours of her kidnapping and she is now in a poor health and barely can speaks.
He clarified - quoting his daughter the journalist specialized in covering woman activities - that the kidnappers intercepted her on Tuesday afternoon, December , 3rd 2013 while she was driving her car in Tunis Street, the center of capital Sana’a after returning from her work in al-Masirah TV. They drove her to unknown place with blindfolded eyes and gagged mouth, and there they have tortured her, hit her on her face, threatened her, terrorized her and then put her in a dark room where there are no blankets to cover with in this cold weather.
He added “The kidnappers threw her near Sana’a airport after looting all of her personal belongings (handbag, mobile phone, ring), forcing her to walk on her feet for a long distance to her aunt’s home located in the residential city, in al-Tayaran area, near to Sana’a airport. Moreover, her father confirmed that his daughter's car and belongings are still with the kidnappers so far.
As well as, the correspondent of Reuters and al-Bayan newspaper in Yemen, Mohammed Al-Ghubary confirmed that he received a threat of murder via a mobile phone number (saved with Freedom Foundation). He clarified that this is the second murder threat within 10 days of an earlier one received via SMS from different mobile number; he said that the security forces did not take any action about it.
Meanwhile, The editor-in-chief of (al-Masa Press), Abdullah bin Amer said that he was subjected to an assassination attempt by firing three bullets at him by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle while going to cover an academic teachers’ protest on Thursday morning, near President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi’s house, in November 28th 2013, in sixty Street in the capital Sana’a.
As well as, the news director of (Mukalla Radio), the journalist AbdulHafeed Saeed Ibrahim was threatened of murder and attack by an unknown person via a mobile phone call on Tuesday evening, in December 3rd 2013, because of publishing an article in 69- issue of ( 30th. November ) newspaper issued in Mukalla on Monday, December 2nd 2013. The article is entitled (Broom area is walking on the palm of destiny! all people are complaining and looking for the justice).
As Freedom Foundation is strongly condemning these violations and expressing its deep regret about these repeated attacks and threats of media freedom in Yemen and the impunity of its perpetrators, it calls upon the security agencies in the capital Sana’a to quickly investigate for revealing the party standing behind and bringing them to justice before the public and put an end to these violations.
