Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development condemned the looting of the distribution

car of (Akhbar Al-Youm) newspaper in Mansoura district, Aden province, as well as condemned the arbitrary work suspending of the female announcer, Jamilah Obaid and stopping her financial dues in Sana’a state-owned Radio, as well as condemned the murder threat of the news deputy editor of) Azaal) private TV, Jameel Al-Qeshm, via a phone call by an unidentified woman .
In a report by Al-Shomo’ Establishment for Press and Publishing, said that unidentified gunmen attacked the distribution bus, on Wednesday morning, February 5th 2014, forced the newspaper distributor and the driver to get down and then looted the bus to an unknown destination . He clarified that this is the third looting of the distribution car in Mansoura area in Aden.
For her part, Jamilah Obaid said in a report to Freedom Foundation “I was surprised by the warning decision issued on Thursday, January 23rd 2014 and circulated by the acting head of Sana’a Radio, Abdul-Malek Al-Arashi, in which he stopped me from working and my salary, without any prior notice ."
She added that this decision came because of her additional work in a private radio without any defaulting in her performance in Sana’a Public Radio, pointing out that she has received a previous phone call from Al-Arashi, telling her "You are not allowed to work in two radios even if you are not defaulting in your work with Sana'a Radio, and you should choose only one job". She clarified that the most of the Sana’a Radio staff, including the acting head, are working in other TV channels and radio stations to improve their income.
Meanwhile, Jameel Al-Qeshm said in his report to Freedom Foundation "I received a phone call from an unidentified woman asking me: Are you Jameel Al-Qeshm?. I replied “yes”, she said: If you do not stop talking about the government, we will blow up your head”. He said that he heard a man voice beside her, dictating her the threat phrases". He confirmed that the phone call is a murder threat because of his reports broadcasted in the channel, in which he talked about the corruption and the poor performance of the national reconciliation government.
As Freedom Foundation is condemning these violations of the media freedom and the rights of journalists, it is demanding the security and local authorities in Aden province to investigate and arrest the attackers, and return the distribution car of (Akhbar Al-Youm) newspaper and secure its staff, as well as demanding to conceal the arbitrary decision of work suspend for the female announcer, Jamilah Obaid and apologize for her, as well as tracking the people behind the murder threat to Jameel Al-Qeshm and guarantee the media freedom.
