Freedom Foundation Condemns Attacks on 8 Journalists and Burning a Distribution Car of Two Newspapers

Sana’a (Saturday, October 5, 2013):

 Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development condemned attacks on 

eight journalists and cameramen, as well as shooting on the distributor and distribution vehicle and burning it in the provinces of Aden , Hajjah, Hodeidah , Mareb and the capital Sana’a.

Freedom Foundation strongly condemned violations by confiscating and burning copies of Arabic (Akhbar Alyawm ) and English (Yemen Fox) newspapers on early Saturday, and distributor and driver of distribution car were attacked by shooting at them and wounding the distributor, and then burning the distribution car according to a report sent to Freedom Foundation by al-Shomo’ Journalism Establishment, which is issuing these two newspapers.

(Sanaa) – A surge of attacks on journalists since a new president took office in Yemen

may overwhelm the recent progress toward freedom of expression, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. While the government of President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi has eased controls on the media as part of broader human rights reforms, it has neither denounced nor prosecuted harassment, threats and assaults by government and private actors against journalists, bloggers, and other critics.

Freedom Foundation Condemns Threats to Burn (al-Share’) Newspaper, Detention of (al-Wahdawi) Editor and Attack on Cameraman of (Suhail TV)

 Sana’a ( Saturday, 09/14/2013 ):

Freedom Foundation for Media Freedom, rights and development condemned the threats to 

burn the office of al-Share’ Newspaper, and the detention of editor-in-chief of al-Wahdawi Newspaper, Adel Abbdu al-Mughni  by national security, as well as condemned the attack on the cameraman of Suhail TV, Nabeel Ahmad al-Kulaisi.

 

 In a report to Freedom Foundation, al-Share’ Newspaper confirmed receiving frequent contacts from an unidentified person demanding the newspaper to “stop the publication of any news about al-Qaeda and Saudi Arabia, or he will burn the newspaper office with those people who are inside " as he said . The contacts were from two different phone numbers that are :(700845860) and ( 02 / 505 366 ) .

Freedom Foundation Concludes an Advanced training in Vocal Skills for Broadcasters from 10 TV Channels

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development concluded today the advanced training course on

 (Vocal Skills for Broadcasters) for 22 broadcasters and presenters from 10 state-owned and private TV stations and Sana'a radio, which lasted for 5 days and carried out in collaboration with the European Union mission in Yemen.

This intensive training course is delivered by the professional trainer in the field of vocal skills for presenters at the Aljazeera TV network and Aljazeera media training center in Doha, Qatar Mr. Salem Hussein al-Jahwashi.

Yemeni journalist Shaye appeals for the release of kidnapped Dutch journalist Judith Spiegel

ANAA (Monday, July 29, 2013):

Yemeni journalist Abdulelah Haider Shaye appealed for immediate release for Dutch Judith Spiegel and her husband, who were kidnapped in June 2013 from their residential area, in the Yemeni capital Sana’a.

Shaye said in his first appearance to media at the office of Freedom Foundation in Sana’a, following his release from prison, where he spent 3 years "I am calling on the kidnappers to release Judith immediately and should not remain in abduction, either with her husband or alone”.

Dutch journalist who kidnapped in Yemen faces killing threat within days if no response for kidnapper’s conditions

Dutch journalist Judith Spiegel who kidnapped with her husband Boudewijn Berendsen by gunmen last June 2013

in Yemen is facing murder within days if the Dutch government and its embassy in Sana’a are not response to her kidnapper’s conditions.

 She confirmed this very serious threat in a video’s entreat in Dutch language, published on YouTube by the kidnappers as her first appearance in media since she was abducted in Yemeni capital Sana’a 5 weeks ago.

The video showed Spiegel with her husband in unknown place, with army blanket background. It seems to be filmed by mobile phone inside a cave as rock side of the picture appeared in the video.

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development condemned bassam2the beating assault of journalist in Aden Alghad Bassam al-Qadhi and his detention for several hours by security officers at Sana’a International Airport.
In a report to Freedom Foundation, al-Qadhi confirmed that 8 of the national security and political security at Sana’a airport have forcibly arrested him on the plane board on Monday, July 8th, and he was interrogated in a humiliating and exasperating manner.
