199Cases of Media Violations reported during the First Half of 2013 and 14 Violators Standing Behind

Freedom Foundation reveals in its bi-annual report that anti- media violations still pose a threat to the lives of journalists in Yemen

Sana’a (Monday, July 1, 2013):
Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development monitored a number of violations against journalists during the first half of 2013, in the framework of the project : (Media Freedom: monitoring and advocacy), which is implemented in partnership with the European Union mission in Yemen.

The total numbers of cases of violations against media freedom monitored by Freedom Foundation during the period January 1st to June 30th of the year 2013 are 199 cases of violation committed against journalists and media outlets.

Regional Network (SANAD) and Freedom Foundation Organize training on (Monitoring and Documentation of Media Violations)

Sana'a (29 June 2013):
A specialized workshop training under the title (monitoring and documentation anti-media violations) is 
Freedom F -2
started today in Sana’a, in which organized by the Centre for Defending Freedom of Journalists in Jordan (CDFJ), that runs the regional network (SANAD), in cooperation and partnership with Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development in Yemen.
The president of the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists Nidal Mansour said, "This workshop is the fourth of its kind organized by the Center in the works context of the network for media freedom defenders in the Arab World (SANAD), which is a regional network is aiming to reduce media violations".

Freedom Foundation Condemns Continued Abduction of Dutch Journalist, Attack on Odai . Threat of al-Faqih and Looting of al-Bahri’s House

Sana’a (Thursday, June 27, 2013):
Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development condemned the continued abduction of the Judith Spiegel PhotoDutch journalist (Judith Spiegel) and her husband (Boudewijn Berendsen) for more than three weeks so far, and who were mysteriously kidnapped from their house in Sana’a.
Sources close to Judith and security sources of Freedom Foundation said that they were probably kidnapped from their home at the beginning of the second week of June, by gunmen believed to be linked to one of the prominent politicians in Yemen.

Course (safety of journalists), which lasted for 4 days and targeted 25 trainees from various media outlets, including local correspondents from International media, which carried out in collaboration with the European Union mission.

This training is delivered by the international trainer, Susanna Inkinen and the trainer who specializes in security and safetyNabil al-Sharafi. This course comes within the framework of the project of (Media Freedom: Monitoring and Advocacy), which is one of the important projects implemented by Freedom Foundation during the two years (2013 - 2015), in partnership with the European Union mission in Yemen.

Freedom Foundation concludes Video Editing Training for 30 Students of Journalism in partnership with Canada Fund

 The Freedom Foundation for media freedom  and development concludes on Monday, May 27, 2013 its Video Editing Training Course,

which targeted students from the colleges of Mass Communication in Sana’a universities, and  from NGOs organizations. 
This course, which lasted for three days, came in the framework of the foundation's Advancing Media Training Project, organized by Freedom Foundation in partnership with Canada Fund for Local Initiatives. This course was delivered by two professional trainers: Mr. Owais al-Shaibani, the executive director of Action Media Company, and  Editing Technician Mr. Abdul-Rahman Hamza.

Freedom Foundation Participates in the Regional Conference (Forum for Media Freedom Defenders) and the International Press Institute’s Congress

 Amman (Wednesday, May 22, 2013):

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development, in Yemen, 

 represented by its president, the journalist ,Khaled al-Hammadi  participated this week in two important conferences about media freedoms in the Arab world. The first conference is (Forum for media freedom defenders in the Arab world) and the other is (The international press institute congress), which were held in the capital of Jordan, Amman.
Both conferences were attended by at least 250 of prominent journalists in the world and Arab world from major newspapers and TV channels, as well as Arab and international activists and stakeholders interested in defending media freedom.

Freedom Foundation condemns kidnapping of 5 journalists in Marib and attacks on journalists in Sana’a and Aden

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development warned of continuing the detention of 

5 journalists who were kidnapped last Wednesday by armed tribesmen in Serwah district, in the province of Mareb.

It also condemned the threat and attack on the crew of (Al Jazeera Mubasher) TV and cameraman of (Yemen Shabab) TV by policemen in the capital Sana’a, as well as the attack on the house of the news director of Aden Radio.

Sana'a and Taiz during this week of the World Press  Freedom, which indicates a continuous deterioration of media freedoms in Yemen.

At the same time, Freedom Foundation expressed its blessing and praise for the judgment by Press and Publications Court in Sana'a last Tuesday, in which a 250 million Yemeni riyals (about 1,163,000 $ ) as a compensation for (al-Shomoa journalism establishment ) for the damage and burning that has affected the establishment and its newspapers during the past two years, since the broke out of the change revolution in Yemen in 2011.

Yemen: Freedom Foundation calls for the release of Shaye and provide medical care for Noor and safe environment for the practicing journalism

As Yemen and various countries celebrating today the World Press Freedom Day, the situation of press freedom in Yemen is increasingly going from bad to worse and getting seriously in danger, following the series of violations committed against media freedoms in Yemen during the last few weeks, particularly during April, which is the worst time for journalists since the beginning term of president Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi who came to power in February 2012.

UNESCO, the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South West Asia and the Arab Region, Doha Center for Media Freedom, and Al Jazeera network organized the fourth regional commemoration of World Press Freedom Day, in Yemeni capital Sana’a in Sana’a from May 5 to 9, which will include a seminar on the state of media freedoms and also training workshop on the safety of journalists.

Freedom Foundation condemns attack on crews of Aljazeera and Sky News Arabia in Aden

Sana’a (Saturday 27 April 2013): 
Freedom Foundation for media freedoms, rights and development condemned the attack targeted the crews of Aljazeera network and Sky News Arabia TV channels on Saturday morning in the province of Aden. 
Freedom Foundation received a statement from its reporter in Aden confirming that the cameraman of Aljazeera news, Samir al-Nemri and the correspondent of (Aljazeera Net),Yasser Hassan, have been attacked by severe beating and confiscating TV camera , as well as attempted attack on the crew of Sky News Arabia by raising the daggers on them and harass them during their journalism coverage of an big rally organized by Southern Movement in Khormaksar district, in the city of Aden.
