Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development demanded the Yemeni Parliament to quickly discuss the media audiovisual bill and also condemned attacks on 6 journalists, in addition to two attacks on media headquarters, where these violation cases occurred in the capital Sana’a and in the provinces of Hodeidah, Hajjah, Al-Ghaydah city in Al-Mahrah.

Freedom Foundation and SANAD Network Strongly Condemn attack On Al-Arabiya’s Crew and confiscating their Camera

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development and SANAD network
(Network of defenders of media freedom in the Arab World) have strongly condemned the physical attack, defamation, inciting, media coverage prevention of Al-Arabiya TV crew and confiscating the channel’s camera, today morning by the officers and soldiers of the National Security while covering the arrival of vehicles carrying the accused before the Special Criminal Court in Sana’a.
In his report to Freedom Foundation, the director of Al-Arabiya office in Sana’a, Hamoud Monassar said, “The channel’s crew who are the correspondent Ehab Al-Showafi, the producer Jamal Noman, the cameraman Fouad Al-Khader and the assistant cameraman Fathi Al-Jaberi, were subjected to the media coverage prevention, physical attack, defamation, inciting and confiscating the TV camera to the National Security Agency ."

Freedom Foundation Condemns Violations On 9 Journalists In a Week

Sana'a (Thursday, February 13th 2014):
Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development condemned violations against 9 journalists in the
Yemeni capital Sana’a, Taiz and Aden provinces, and one of them was arrested in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
These incidents occurred during the past week and were beating, threat, attempted kidnapping, verbal insulting, defamation and arrest by unidentified gunmen and security agencies.
The broadcaster of (YMC) TV, Fahmi Al-Buraihi and his colleague, the cameraman Khaled Farhan, were beaten and prevented from the media coverage of a march near the Kentucky round, Zubairy Street in the capital Sana’a , by unknown perpetrators , on Monday morning, February 10th2014.

Freedom Foundation (FF) for media freedom, rights and development strongly condemned the

assaulting and beating the photojournalist of European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) in Yemen Yahya Arhab by riot-police of Special Security Forces at Asser area in capital Sana’a, Yemen, as well as confiscating 2 of his professional cameras while he was covering a protest of motorcyclists who prevented from driving in Sana’a for security reasons.
In his report to FF Yahya Arhab explained that he had been banned from coverage the motorcyclists protest and severely beaten with sticks and batons on the head and different parts of his body, then police confiscated 2 of his cameras in which they took them by force and throw one of them to the ground, broke it and its zoom lens, while he was trying to take pictures for the protest, at Asser area in Sana’a, Yemen, on Saturday 30th. November 2013.

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development condemned attacks on
eight journalists and cameramen, as well as shooting on the distributor and distribution vehicle and burning it in the provinces of Aden , Hajjah, Hodeidah , Mareb and the capital Sana’a.
Freedom Foundation strongly condemned violations by confiscating and burning copies of Arabic (Akhbar Alyawm) and English (Yemen Fox) newspapers on early Saturday, and distributor and driver of distribution car were attacked by shooting at them and wounding the distributor, and then burning the distribution car according to a report sent to Freedom Foundation by al-Shomo’ Journalism Establishment, which is issuing these two newspapers.

Dutch journalist who kidnapped in Yemen faces killing threat within days if no response for kidnapper’s conditions

Dutch journalist Judith Spiegel who kidnapped with her husband Boudewijn Berendsen by gunmen last June 2013

in Yemen is facing murder within days if the Dutch government and its embassy in Sana’a are not response to her kidnapper’s conditions.
She confirmed this very serious threat in a video’s entreat in Dutch language, published on YouTube by the kidnappers as her first appearance in media since she was abducted in Yemeni capital Sana’a 5 weeks ago.
The video showed Spiegel with her husband in unknown place, with army blanket background. It seems to be filmed by mobile phone inside a cave as rock side of the picture appeared in the video.

Sources close to Judith and security sources of Freedom Foundation said that they were probably kidnapped from their home at the beginning of the second week of June, by gunmen believed to be linked to one of the prominent politicians in Yemen.
