FREEDOM FOUNDATION for media freedom, rights and development is a Yemeni non-profit and non-governmental organization, established according to the license No.615, January 2012 from the Yemeni government.
It is founded and running by the Yemeni veteran journalist, Mr. Khaled al-Hammadi, the winner of the International Award for Press Freedom 2011 from the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) as first Yemeni journalist ever get this award.

Yemen: Houthi Rebels stormed the HQ of several TV channels in Sana'a and blocked many news websites

Sana’a (March 26, 2015):

The Houthi militia stormed on Thursday the headquarters of most Yemeni TV channels in Sanaa and looted its equipment as well as blocked many news websites, in an unprecedented campaign against the local media in Yemen.

Yemen: Houthi rebels threatens to shut down opposing media condemns them

Sanaa (Thursday, March 26, 2015):

Yemeni Houthi rebels threatened that it would take (deterrent and strict measures) against media that are contrary to the rebellious tendencies and oppose its policies.
It said in a statement released by the Houthi-run ministry of information, late on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, "that these measures may amount to the closure of any media outlet is working to stir up unrest."

Freedom Foundation strongly condemns the murder of journalist Abdulkarim al-Khaiwani

Sanaa (Wednesday, 18 March, 2015):

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development strongly condemned the assassination of prominent journalist Abdul Karim Mohammed al-Khaiwani (50 years) by unidentified gunmen in Sanaa on Wednesday, March 18 / 2015.
Freedom Foundation informed from many sources that unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle fired live bullets at the journalist Al-Khaiwani and shot him dead next to his residential neighborhood in capital Sanaa.

Houthi Militias loots equipment and printing machines of Al-Shomo’ Press Corop. after a month of storming its HQ in Sanaa and committed many attacks on media freedom

Sana’a, Friday 06 March 2015:
Houthi militias looted printing machines, equipment, cash amounts and row materials of the private Al-Shomo’ publishing corporation in Sana’a, which publishing many daily and weekly newspapers. This incident comes after a month of storing the Head Quarters of the Al-Shomo’ corp. in Yemeni capital Sana’a and a series of Houthi attacks on media and journalists during the past month.

Sana’a (Tuesday, 27/01/2015):

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development in Yemen documented 25 attacks on journalists during Sunday and Monday (25 and 26 January 2015) in the capital Sana’a, out of the total 49 violation cases monitored by Freedom Foundation since the beginning of the current January, and which were committed mostly by Houthi gunmen.
Freedom Foundation pointed out that Sunday and Monday were the most aggressive in violating the media freedom in the capital Sana’a and gloomiest in dealing with journalists and photographers for various local and international media outlets.

Freedom Foundation documents 359 Violation Cases in 2014 against Journalists And Media Outlets In Yemen

Sana'a (Sunday, January 11th 2015):
Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development in Yemen monitored and documented 359 violation cases against journalists and media outlets in Yemen during 2014, which were distributed on 11 violation types and committed by 8 parties, in which armed groups were at the forefront of them.
Freedom Foundation clarified that violations on journalists and media outlets have increased and worsened during 2014 in terms of numbers, types and danger compared to the violations of the previous year-2013, which reveals that media freedom in Yemen is “Facing Imminent Risk” in the current time.

A Training of Trainers (TOT) course in the field of security and safety of journalists was concluded on Wednesday evening Dec.17th in Sana’a, conducted by Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development in cooperation with the International Media Support (IMS), which targeted 10 trainees with various background and experiences in this field.
